Ensure accuracy and consistency
The importance of External Quality Assurance (EQA)
When using point of care testing (POCT) equipment outside a diagnostic laboratory,
it is important to demonstrate ‘best practice’ and comply with clinical governance
issues. It is therefore strongly advised that any POCT equipment has regular EQA
checks from a recognised Independent Accredited Laboratory.
The main purpose of EQA is to provide an individual participant, with an objective
assessment of how their results compare with those of others using the same POCT
instrument. EQA is complementary to internal quality control checks, which ensures
accuracy and reproducibility of results from day to day.
How many samples per year?
The lab will send 6 samples per year, directly to the participating sites. The serum
can be used to test the accuracy of results for Total and HDL Cholesterol and Glucose.
A detailed report is provided.
